Darts guides: scoring, checkouts and bogey numbers
Guides and tools for 501 and 301 darts. Pick the page that matches your question: keeping score and busts, what to throw on a finish, the seven bogey numbers, or how the game changes under a different rule.
Keeping score. How to keep score in darts covers board values, the 501 countdown, busts, double out, legs and sets, and plays a full leg visit by visit.
Finishing. The checkout chart and calculator gives the finish for every score from 2 to 170 that can be checked out, and the range pages, from checkouts 2 to 40 up to checkouts 131 to 170, explain each band. Bogey numbers covers the seven scores in that range with no one-visit finish, and how to avoid leaving one.
Other rules. 301 vs 501 compares the two start scores and how long a leg takes. Double out vs straight out explains the finishing rules, and double in.
The rules follow the World Darts Federation and DRA rulebooks; the DRA sets the rules for PDC events. Every worked example and checkout route uses the same rules as the darts score tracker app, which counts down 501 and 301 legs one visit at a time.
