Darts checkouts from 131 to 170
Every finish from 131 to 170 takes three darts, and the chart opens each one with two trebles. 170 (T20, T20, Bull) is the highest checkout; 167, 164 and 161 also finish on the Bull, and 159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 168 and 169 cannot be finished in one visit.
The big finishes
- 170: T20, T20, Bull. The highest checkout, and the only route. It is often called the big fish.
- 167: T20, T19, Bull. Also the only route.
- 164: T20, T18, Bull, or T19, T19, Bull.
- 161: T20, T17, Bull, or T19, T18, Bull.
- 160: T20, T20, D20, the highest finish on a double in the ring. T20, Bull, Bull also works.
Below 160 the chart keeps to the ring: two trebles and a double, mostly D16, D18 or D20. 131 is T20, T13, D16, 150 is T20, T18, D18 and 158 is T20, T20, D19. No setup dart in this band can be a single, because 130 (T20, 20, Bull) is the most a single can help make.
Why 161 to 170 finish on the Bull, or have no checkout
Above 160 a double in the ring cannot finish: D20 would need more than 120 from the first two darts, and 120 (two treble 20s) is the most they can score. So the last dart must be the Bull, and the first two must make the score minus 50. Two darts make only four totals from 111 to 120 (111, 114, 117 and 120, each two trebles), which is why 161, 164, 167 and 170 go out and 162, 163, 165, 166, 168 and 169 do not. 159 misses too: it would need 109 before the Bull or 119 before D20. Bogey numbers explained goes through each one.
What to do on a bogey number
You cannot finish, so use the visit to leave a double. The checkout calculator suggests T20, T20 and a single that leaves 32 (D16) for your next visit:
| Score left | Setup | Leaves |
|---|---|---|
| 159 | T20, T20, 7 | 32 (D16) |
| 162 | T20, T20, 10 | 32 (D16) |
| 163 | T20, T20, 11 | 32 (D16) |
| 165 | T20, T20, 13 | 32 (D16) |
| 166 | T20, T20, 14 | 32 (D16) |
| 168 | T20, T20, 16 | 32 (D16) |
| 169 | T20, T20, 17 | 32 (D16) |
If both trebles land in the single 20, every one of these setups leaves 112, which is still a three-dart finish (T20, 20, D16).
What a missed first treble leaves
Every route in this band opens with T20. Land it in the single 20 and you are on 111 to 150 with two darts, and all of those need three, so the finish is gone for this visit. The If the first dart hits the single column shows the finish to aim for next time. With the two darts you have left, throw a setup: from 170, a single 20 leaves 150, and T20, T18 with the next two darts leaves 36 for D18.

How the app handles it
Scores above 170 and the bogey numbers (159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 168 and 169) are not flagged as finishes under double out, so the app shows no Finish badge on them. On a checkout it suggests a route from the same code as the table above, such as T20 T20 Bull on 170, and its post-match stats (Pro) include each player's highest checkout.
Questions
What should you throw on 169?
169 has no checkout, so use the visit to leave a double: T20, T20, 17 leaves 32 for D16 on your next visit. If both trebles land in the single 20, you are on 112, still a three-dart finish (T20, 20, D16).
Why can you not check out 169?
Above 160 the last dart must be the Bull, so the first two would have to make 119, and no two darts total 119. 169 is one of seven bogey numbers: 159, 162, 163, 165, 166, 168, 169.
What is the highest finish on a double in the ring?
160: T20, T20, D20. Everything above it finishes on the Bull or has no checkout.
Can you check out 180?
Not under double out, where 170 is the highest. In straight out, where any dart can finish, 180 goes out with three treble 20s.
