Darts checkouts from 41 to 60

Every score from 41 to 60 is a two-dart finish: a single to set up, then a double. The chart leaves 32 (D16) from 41 to 52 and 40 (D20) from 53 to 60, so 41 is 9, D16 and 60 is 20, D20.

A single, then a double

Above 40 the only one-dart finish is the Bull on 50, so every other score in this band needs two darts. The first is a single, and the single beds are the biggest targets on the board, so it is the easiest setup dart there is. The second dart goes at the double, which leaves the third dart of the visit spare: if the double misses, you get another go, at the same double or at the one the miss leaves.

The best leaves: 32 and 40

From 41 to 52 the chart throws the single that leaves 32: 41 is 9, D16, 44 is 12, D16 and 52 is 20, D16. From 53 up a single can no longer reach 32 (53 would need a 21), so the chart leaves 40 instead: 53 is 13, D20 and 60 is 20, D20.

32 comes first because D16 halves cleanly if you hit the single: 16, then 8, 4 and 2. Checkouts from 2 to 40 explains the chain. If you have a favourite double of your own, the checkout calculator lists the other routes: 41 is also 1, D20 or 5, D18, and 56 is also 20, D18.

50: why not the Bull?

50 is the one score in this band that a single dart can finish, with the Bull. The chart still plays 18, D16: a single 18 is much easier to hit than the Bull, and it leaves two darts at D16. With only one dart in hand, the Bull is the only finish, and the calculator says so.

What a missed dart leaves

Two kinds of miss matter here. If the setup single drifts into a neighbouring number, the last column of the table shows where you land. The neighbours follow the order of the board (20, 1, 18, 4, 13, 6, 10, 15, 2, 17, 3, 19, 7, 16, 8, 11, 14, 9, 12, 5, clockwise from the top), and for every score from 41 to 60 either neighbour still leaves a two-dart finish, with two darts left to throw.

If the double lands in the single, you are on half the double with one dart left: D16 missed into the single 16 leaves 16 (D8), and D20 missed into the single 20 leaves 20 (D10). Both are still one-dart finishes.

Routes computed by the same checkout rules the app uses.

One dart left?

With one dart in hand you cannot finish from 41 to 60, except with the Bull on 50. Throw the setup single anyway: it leaves the same double for your next visit, with three darts at it. On 41 that is the 9, leaving 32.

How the app handles it

The app shows a Finish badge with a suggested route whenever a player is on a one-visit checkout, and 41 is one of its examples: 9 D16, the same route as the table above, which uses that route code for every score in this band. Each visit goes in as one 3-dart total, so a two-dart finish such as 9 then D16 is entered as 41.

Questions

How do you check out 41 in darts?

9, then D16. If you prefer D20, 1 then D20 also works, and 5 then D18 is another option.

What is the best way to finish 50?

The chart plays 18, then D16, and keeps the Bull as the last resort. With one dart left, go for the Bull: it counts as a double, so it finishes 50 on its own.

What if the setup single lands in the wrong number?

You still have two darts, and for every score from 41 to 60 either neighbouring number leaves a two-dart finish. On 41, aiming at the 9: a 14 leaves 27 (3, D12) and a 12 leaves 29 (5, D12).

What is the highest finish with a single and a double in the ring?

60: a single 20, then D20. From 61 to 70 a single can only set up the Bull, and above 70 the setup dart cannot be a single: it has to be a treble, a double or a bull.
