Racquetball scoring rules and guides
A standard racquetball match is the best of three games: games 1 and 2 go to 15 points, and a tiebreaker to 11 decides a split match. Under USA Racquetball's side-out scoring only the serving side can score, and a game is won by a single point.
Racquetball has two scoring systems in regular use. The USA Racquetball rulebook uses side-out scoring: win a rally on your own serve and you score, win it on the return and you only take the serve. International Racquetball Federation (IRF) events use rally scoring instead, where every rally is a point, and IRF World Championships play games to 11, won by 2.
New to it? Start with how to keep score in racquetball. It covers side-outs, doubles serving and the tiebreaker, with rally-by-rally examples. The pages below explain rally scoring versus side-out scoring and how racquetball differs from UK racketball (now Squash 57) and squash.
If you would rather not count, the racquetball score tracker app keeps score on iPhone and Apple Watch with one tap per rally. It works out whether each rally scored a point and marks the serving side, in side-out or rally scoring. It does not track doubles hand-outs, and it plays the best of three games, not five.
