Squash scoring guides
These guides cover squash scoring as it is played today, point-a-rally to 11, plus the old English scoring to 9 and what a let or a stroke does to the score.
Learning the game, or keeping score for a friend's match? Start with how to keep score in squash. It covers points, games, the serve and the score calls, with a game at 10-all scored rally by rally.
Two more questions come up on court. What was the old scoring to 9? PAR vs English scoring explains hand-in hand-out scoring, the receiver's choice at 8-all and PAR to 15, with the same rallies scored both ways. And what happens to the score after a let or a stroke? Let, stroke and no let covers the referee's three decisions and how each one is reached. Coming from racquetball? Racquetball vs racketball vs squash shows how the games differ.
Every rule here is checked against the World Squash singles rules. The rally-by-rally examples in the scoring guide and on the PAR vs English page are scored or checked with the same engine as the squash score tracker app, which keeps a singles match with one tap per rally, in PAR or English scoring. The let and stroke example is worked out by hand, because the app does not record referee decisions. Squash joins the Olympic programme at Los Angeles 2028.
